THE DANCER

Ireti is a schoolgirl who joins a troupe heading to France for a tour but is denied
the opportunity to dance due to racism once she arrives. Ireti is dissatisfied and
criticizes Monsignor Beti, the troupe’s leader, who strikes her severely. Ireti seeks
sanctuary in the Nigerian Embassy in France, fearing for her safety. Ireti’s
return to Nigeria is aided by the Nigerian Embassy. She founded an NGO to
teach young girls how to prioritize their education over their dreams of living
overseas.
