Deep suspicion among the top hierarchy of the movement for survival of Ogoni people, MOSOP addressing her protest against the government, breeds bad-blood among its principal decision-makers and leaves a weakened support base for ardent supporters. The Military Government and Shell executives capitalized on this to deal a brutal blow on the Ogoni civil movement. The early division, relates to whether Ogoni should boycott the forthcoming general elections or not and brings a pall of uncertainty on Ogoni leadership. Despite the portrayal of Ken Saro-Wiwa as a gentle, pipe-smoking eco-activist, his opponents say he was a far more complex figure – an ambitious and ruthless leader, whose views create a stiff challenge to his methods.
